Borders - PS Tutorial

So you've just shot another award winning self portrait, but before showing all the guys down at the club, you'd like to spruce yourself up, by adding a lovely border around your immaculate person. Well load up your legally purchased copy of adobe photoshop and follow this very simple tutorial.

Obviously open the photo that you'd like to add a wonderful border/frame to.

Now from "Image" menu goto "Canvas Size" and you will be presented with the following.
Now I always like to have a stroke (or matte) around my images, that way if you have a black border and a black sky, one can differentiate between the photo and the border. Of course you may not want a stroke and if so just ignore this step. My shade of choice for the stroke is usually always grey, but you can elect another from the palette, and I usually like to have a thin stroke.

Ok so basically what we're doing here is just extending the canvas. Because the document I'm working here is to be uploaded onto the web, I always choose "pixels" as my unit. If you were to print the photo, I'd recommend using mm, cm or inches, so you will actually know the physical size your extending by. But for now I'm just going to use pixels, and I've entered a width of 2 and a height of 2, 2 pixels is a nice thin line that won't make my head look too big.

Now make sure "Relative" is ticked, and the anchor point is in the centre with arrows pointing out in every direction (this just means we're extending canvas in every direction).

And then of course select the colour/shade you want to extend the canvas. Once complete click OK. Now you will have something like this.

Ok so you probably can't see the stroke around the image there.. but trust me it's there.

Ok so now we're just going to do it again. But with a larger increase size, and a different colour. So click "Image" then "Canvas Size" and do the following.

I've Chosen 80px, just experiment and see what looks good. This yeilds this result!
Then add the title and the MUST have copyright information..
Then SAVE THE FILE.. VOLLAA

PS.. Always add the borders to an image after resizing, If you resize after adding a border the lines will pixelate, and it'll look very much dodge.
