Easter Show Outing

Hi all,
There is people asking if we can go to Easter Show too for an outing.

I'd be happy to join you guys if we can organise at least 5 people to go with us.

I'd prefer if we set off around noon on Sat (14th April) so that we can stay for the night views.

Any other ideas are most welcome. And please RSVP here if you are coming.

Thank you!

So what's happening with the photowalk tomorrow (26-04-2008)?

Hi all,

I remember the email went out but there's no event announcement here ... I presume it's still on? Who is going? :-D

FWIW if it's on I'll almost certainly be late - got a lunch to go to ... so I'll probably need to ping one of you to figure out where you've gotten to!

Model Shooting Workshop

Just checking out if there's a quorum here. I thinking of organising a model shoot workshop. Preferably in a studio if not outdoors. Will be limited to 5-6 photographers at most. Will be either using models I have worked with on Model Mayhem or some new model. What will be taught will be posing, lighting and sorts.

Red Bull Flugtag, this Sunday

Hi all!

Red Bull Flugtag comes to Sydney! This should make for some very interesting photography ... http://www.redbullflugtag.com.au

Starting about noon this Sunday 6th April at Mrs Mac's Pt, a pile of people will be jumping off a platform over Sydney Harbour strapped to human powered flying machines. Or at least they'll try to pass them off as flying machines :-)

Anyone interested?

Macro Tutorial??

Was there going to be a macro tutorial? When was that likely to happen, warning in advance is good so can shuffle lesser important things around such as work, university and girlfriend.

Jokes... sort of

But desparate for more tips *turns to Raymond, the fountain*

Hoopla is on again!

Hi all!

At least one person asked me to post this ... the Hoopla circus festival is on again in Darling Harbour all through this long weekend!

Unfortunately someone decided to schedule the Easter Show outing this weekend as well so we might have a collision ... but it is on from Friday until Monday so there's plenty of time! Well worth going and plenty of photographic opportunities. Just make sure you bring your hat, sunscreen, water and lenshood!

Circusoc outing

Hi all,

I mentioned to some of you about the possibility of doing a Circusoc (UNSW Circus Society) outing to practice offcamera lighting, lighting for dramatic effect, etc. ... unfortunately given the event schedule I suspect this will have to wait until next session.

Anyway on the Monday just past, I dropped into their practice session with my gear and tried a few things ... if anyone is interested, the photos I took are up at http://raybot.cse.unsw.edu.au/photos/CircusocPractice20080317 ... note that I went more to see what the environment and lighting would be like and what things might work - I made no attempt to direct them to pose or whatever so the photos aren't as interesting as might be possible ... but perhaps it might get some of you thinking about ideas :-)

Sydney Superboat Grand Prix this weekend ...

Hi all!

The Sydney Superboat Grand Prix is happening this weekend! See http://www.sydneysuperboatgrandprix.com.au/ for details. Should make for some interesting action photography and there are plenty of vantage points from which to watch it. I'm thinking of a gathering early afternoon on Saturday, who is interested? :-)

Australia Day - what are everyone's photographic plans?

Hi all!

Australia Day is fast approaching! Always plenty of things to take photos of, from events and people in Hyde Park to dressed up ships, boats and ferries on Sydney Harbour to aircraft displays ... and of course, the fireworks in Darling Harbour!

So who is going and what are they planning? I'm planning on spending most of it around Sydney Harbour, possibly near the Botanic Gardens, with the Australia Day Parade starting at noon followed by a couple of flyovers, the start of the harbour section of the Australia Day Regatta and the Australia Day Tall Ships Race, then wandering over to the Northern end of Hyde Park to catch the end of the NRMA Motorfest, then finding some dinner before heading over to Darling Harbour at around 7.30 to get a good spot for the fireworks (which start at 8.45).

Photo opportunity TODAY (Sat 19 Jan) - "Water Fools" at Darling Harbour

Hi all!

I know it's short notice but the final Sydney performance of "Water Fools" by French theatre company "Illotopie" is happening today (Saturday 19th of January) at Darling Harbour, scheduled to start at 8.45pm (yesterday's performance was delayed to 9.30pm, probably because of the rain). Well worth going, even if it does rain!

It's a theatrical performance played out by actors riding on sculptures floating in the harbour, accompanied by pyrotechnics and various sound effects. For more details see http://www.sydneyfestival.org.au/events/cockle_bay_darling_harbour/water_fools_ilotopie.htm

Called Off - Sculpture By The Sea photo shoot - Tuesday, 6th November?

Called Off. Sorry... See comment below for details

Sculpture By The Sea is an annual event where the Bondi - Tamarama walk is turned into one big open gallery. Entry is free.

The scenary and sculptures often make a rather dramatic combination when shot right. The only thing photographers will have to watch out for would be a) boundaries. Safety fences are in place, respect them. b) People, easily avoidable on a weekday.

I know it's StuVac next week, but would there be any interest in going to Bondi Beach together on that Tuesday? I think it'd be a welcome break for most, and the I think the walk and phototaking can be covered in just under an hour...

Australian International Motor Show - who is going?

It's that time of year again - the Australian International Motor Show! Lots of nice shiny things to see, the best non-flash lighting you're likely to get indoors and a welcoming photo policy (to the point that they have a competition - send them your best photos and their favorite 10 win Nikon Coolpix cameras!) ...

The show runs from now until the 21st of October (ie. in 2 weekends time) at the Sydney Exhibition and Convention Center in Darling Harbour and costs $17 for entry. So ... who is interested in an outing during one of these weekends? :-)

Rex Dupain's "The Colour of Bondi" exhibition

For those of you who don't already know about it, there's an exhibition by photographer Rex Dupain at the S. H. Ervin Gallery (on Observatory Hill, just past The Rocks in Sydney) of 47 photos taken at Bondi Beach over the last few years ... I went today, well worth seeing I think - gave me lots to think about in terms of colour, composition, choice of light and so-on ... $4 entry if you have a student card. It finishes up next Sunday.

If the surname rings a bell somewhere, it might be because Rex's father, Max Dupain, was also a photographer and took photos at Bondi Beach, including this rather famous photo from 1937.
